| Blood on the big screen!
Movies are supposedly a reflection of society, which is why the fact that more and more violent films are making hay at the box-office is a scary thought! Take the current spate of Hollywood movies like Apocalypto, 300 and Babel, which are violent to the core. But while some chose to sit through these movies with their eyes shut, no one actually walked out of the screening room. Closer home, Bollywood has also displayed a strong shift in showcasing violence. Audiences have come of age, says director Anurag Kashyap, whose movie Black Friday faced flak for the true to life depiction of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. The problem with our moral guardians is that they think whatever makes people uncomfortable should not be shown. Thats warped logic. Model-turned-actor Aryan Vaid says that though he has enjoyed movies like Silence of the Lambs, he does not enjoy watching violence on screen.

Genocide and the United States
Adam Sterling, executive director of the Sudan Divestment Task Force, first became involved with ending the genocide in Darfur two and a half years ago when he was a member of a student group at the University of California, Los Angeles. "One of our faculty advisors was involved with the divestment movement in South Africa during the apartheid," he says. Sterling is one of many alumnae and current students involved in the international divestment movement, which takes on a distinct character in four different countries – the United States, Canada, England and Ireland. Divestment is when individuals remove their money from certain financial institutions who indirectly fund the genocide occurring in Darfur, Sudan. Prior to divesting, their money is invested in various companies, some of which operate in the Darfur region.

Financial Tips by Carl Mook
A: A home equity line of credit can be put to good use as a convenient source of cash for things such as home improvements, a child's college education or even the rare emergency. As with any major financial decisions, it is important to consider the advantages as well as the disadvantages before moving forward. One of the major advantages is that homeowners are generally free to use the home equity line of credit for anything they wish. Another nice characteristic is that interest is not usually charged until the line of credit is actually used. Also, in order to minimize the homeowner's initial cash outlay, the financing costs associated with the line of credit may actually be built into the line of credit. Two of the greatest benefits of the home equity line of credit are that interest is generally tax deductible up to a certain point, making other debt that would have no tax deductible interest become deductible if the line of credit was used to pay off this other debt.

Former Long John Silver’s structure may soon be razed
Witmer said he would have liked to get a Denny's restaurant to move into the former Long John Silver's building, but was not successful. He added he hopes this will spur additional development along Lincoln Avenue.Devonshire executive Tim Harrington said he hoped to start construction on the retail center in May and have the building completed by the fall."We don't have any signed leases, but we are in the final negotiations of several," Harrington said.Harrington said 5M would likely follow a similar timeline for its Walgreen, but he did not know the developer's demolition and construction schedule.
