TheStreet.com Ratings: Top 10 All-Around Value Stocks

Each weekday, TheStreet.com Ratings compiles a list of the top 10 stocks in five categories -- fast-growth, all-around value, large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap -- and publishes these lists in the Ratings section of our Web site.

This list, updated daily, is based on data from the close of the previous trading session. Today, we look at all-around value stocks. These are stocks of companies that meet a number of criteria, including annual revenue of over $500 million, lower-than-average valuations such as a price-to-sales ratio of less than 2, and leverage that is less than 49% of total capital.

In addition, they must rank near the top of all stocks rated by our proprietary quantitative model, which looks at more than 62 factors. The stocks must also be followed by at least one financial analyst who posts estimates on the Institutional Brokers' Estimate System.

Hosni Mubarak’s crackdown in Egypt fails to dampen strike wave

Last week rubbish collectors in Giza, near the capital Cairo, stormed company offices in protest at the non-payment of their wages.

Cowards

Angry workers chanted "the ministers are cowards" and defied military law to smash windows and cars belonging to management.

In the Nile Delta province of Monofiya, some 2,700 workers have occupied a privately owned textile mill.

The bosses have published a list of 20 workers they accuse of instigating the strike. According to reports, the factory has been surrounded by security forces.

Over 4,000 textile workers in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria have walked out over attempts to deduct pay for an earlier strike.

In Cairo, some 9,000 granary workers have beaten an attempt by the regime to cut the grain supply to a state owned company and transfer production to a private firm.

RBC Asset Management introduces fixed administration fee for funds

RBC Asset Management Inc. today announced that it will change the way it calculates operating expenses for each of the RBC Funds, resulting in lower costs, compared to 2006, for the vast majority of RBC Funds, and greater transparency for investors.

Beginning July 1, RBC will pay certain operating expenses of each of the RBC Funds, in return for a new fixed administration fee, which will be paid by the funds to RBC. Expenses that will continue to be paid by the funds include those related to the board of governors of the RBC Funds, the cost of any new government or regulatory requirements and any borrowing costs.

Investors will benefit, as more than 80% of the RBC Funds will see lower management expense ratios this year, as a direct result of this change. This is part of our ongoing commitment to unitholders and we will continue to actively benchmark the MERs of each of the RBC Funds versus the industry, said Brenda Vince, president, RBC Asset Management Inc., in a news release.

Wine world’s tangled web

Serena Sutcliffe, head of Sotheby's wine department since 1991, has been one of the few to go willingly on the record on this issue – last year warning that the quantity of 1945 vintage wines sold was greater than the actual output of wine in that year.

Another is Maureen Downey, a California-based fine wine consultant who now runs her own fine wine business, Chai Consulting. She feels strongly that the fine wine trade has fallen short of its responsibilities. “Jewellery is rarely auctioned without receipts from the seller," she points out. “Why should fine and rare wine be any different? I think it is fair that buyers ask what has been done to verify or, at minimum, question the provenance of collections offered with equal diligence. Did the retailers, brokers or auction houses ask for receipts or proof of sales? Where did the consignor get hold of many of the gems they offer and how much did they spend? Sometimes, consignments are just so opulent that they beg to be questioned.

Develpment implications of Changing age Structure in World ...

The United Nations Commission on Population and Development today opened its fortieth session aiming to widen the scope of the socio-economic aspects of the debate beyond population size and growth, to encompass a critical but largely ignored demographic variable: population age structures -- or the way populations are distributed across different age groups.

Jose Antonio Ocampo, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs opened the Commissions week-long session noting humanitys great successes in reducing mortality risks among the young, in increasing longevity, prolonging health and, especially, in achieving major reductions in the number of children that women bore, were at the root of major ongoing changes in the age distribution, changes that had substantial implications for development.

Assistant's Row

My name is Emily Goldberg, I'm 23 years old and I'm an assistant on TODAY for the 9AM Senior Producer and head of TODAY bookings, Marc Victor (that's Marc with a C and not a K!!) Whenever I tell people that I work as an assistant on TODAY, they immediately say,
“That's soooooo cool!!!! An assistant!!!!"
Then silence. Awkward pause… “So what exactly do you do?"

To tell you the truth…It's kind of hard to describe just one “I Do" because there are lots of “I do's" (like Starbuck's runs, scheduling meetings for my boss and I've gotten quite good at making those impossible last minute lunch reservations.)

But, I've also enjoyed the opportunity to write segments and “opens" (shorter segments around 2 minutes each. Did you see Ms.

Shaping a path to higher ground

As the stock market struggles to advance, hardly a day goes by when the chief executive of a company doesn't announce that his firm's grand strategy can't be achieved while ownership rests in the public-equity market.

The stock market, it seems, is too emotional, too ignorant, too short-term-oriented and too laden with regulatory costs for the value to be realized.

So, the company is selling itself to a private-equity buyer and delisting its shares from stock exchanges. Goodbye, Jim Cramer. Hello, Henry Kravis.

Last year, 100 going-private deals were announced in the U.S., with a total value of $316 billion, according to CapitalIQ, a unit of Standard & Poor's. That was up from 45 deals, valued at $55 billion, in 2005. And through April 2 of this year, 41 deals have been announced, worth $149 billion.
