Tasty Morsels of Deficit Spending

"And this pathetic performance occurs despite the fact that the government has been buying huge, huge, HUGE amounts of war materiel from the 'defense industry' and running up enormous, enormous, ENORMOUS deficits to pay for it!"

by The Mogambo Guru

Money must be getting tight, as Total Fed Credit is up only $1 billion from last week, foreign central banks are cutting back on their gluttony (adding only $4 billion to their holdings at the Fed), and now I am forced to make the painful choice between paying for the kids' damned dental problems or getting that expensive new driver that is GUARANTEED to give me another 15 yards off the tee, curing my accursed fade-away slice problems forever. And this will (in the final analysis) make me a whole lot happier, and will last a hell of a lot longer than anything that stupid dentist does, too.

Greater fortune found ignoring $igns of time$

I met this rich guy a few weeks ago at a local sushi bar who had all sorts of questions about what I do. I presume he was scanning me for gold-digger potential, trying to determine if I had "dollar signs in my eyes," which is how he described several of the women he had recently dated.

I'm sitting there thinking, "Buddy, the only thing I have in my eyes right now is that last piece of seared ahi - are you going to eat it, or should I?"

I'm not really sure what he was getting at since I certainly don't have silicone in my chest, extensions in my hair, the number two in my age or two digits in my weight like most of the women he probably dates.

"How much do you get paid for, say, an article you write in The New York Times?" he wanted to know.

"Not enough to pay for what you've probably spent on drinks since arriving in Aspen," I replied.

Malaysia Gets More FDI Than Indonesia, Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia drew more foreign direct investment (FDI) last year than neighbouring countries like Indonesia and Thailand, the Dewan Rakyat was told Tuesday. International Trade and Industry Parliamentary Secretary Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew said Malaysia was second in the Asean FDI ranking, after Singapore. "It is therefore not true that we drew less FDI or that our (FDI) situation is serious," she said in reply to a supplementary question from Tan Lian Hoe (BN-Bukit Gantang) on Malaysia's FDI standing in comparison to its neighbours. Last year Singapore recorded RM30.7 billion in FDI, followed by Malaysia (RM20.2 billion), Thailand (RM11.4 billion) and Indonesia (RM4.7 billion). She also pointed out that last year Malaysia was ranked 23rd among 61 countries in The World Competitiveness Book 2006, an improvement from the 28th placing in 2005.

Tilney's Sheridan moves with his funds to New Star

Tilney's director of European equities Nicholas Sheridan is transferring to New Star this summer along with three of his funds.

The Tilney European Growth fund (Tilney European Growth 1) will merge into a new fund set up by New Star, which will have a strong bias towards European ex-UK large-cap stocks and will complement Richard Pease's top-performing mid-cap focused European Growth fund (New Star European Growth Ret) and Daniel White's Pan-European Equity fund.

As the £26.8 million European Growth fund will take up a large proportion of the new vehicle, it will maintain its track record. It is anticipated that the Tilney UK Equity fund (Tilney UK Equity 1) and the Tilney UK Fixed Interest fund (Tilney UK Fixed Interest 1) will be merged into New Star's UK Growth (New Star UK Growth Ret) and Sterling Bond funds (New Star Sterling Bond Inc) respectively.
